COVID-19 School Closure

COVID-19 School Closure
Posted on 12/11/2020

On December 11, 2020, the district learned that an individual in the Middle School/High School tested positive for COVID-19. This individual is now in quarantine and will have to recover and be cleared by the Department of Health before returning to school.

We are continuing to work closely with the Washington County Health Department on contact tracing efforts. If you or your child were in close proximity to this individual for a certain period of time, the County Department of Health will contact you directly.

Middle School/High School
Due to the nature of this particular case and out of an abundance of caution, we will be closing the building to all Middle School and High School students on Monday, December 14, 2020, through Wednesday, December 23, 2020.
Middle School and  High School students will participate in the fully remote learning model during this time.

Middle School and High School students will return to campus after the Holiday Break on Monday, January 4, 2021.

As a reminder, Monday, January 4, 2021, will be a “Group 1” day, and students in that group will be expected to attend classes in-person.

Elementary School
The Fort Ann Central School District will be closed to all students in the Elementary School on Monday, December 14, 2020.
In working with the Washington County Health Department, our district feels that this 24hr pause on Monday, December 14, 2020, will provide our district sufficient time to complete contact tracing, perform additional cleaning procedures, and prepare for a safe return to in-person learning on Tuesday, December 15, 2020.

All Elementary students will be asked to work on the packets that they were previously given to complete during a 24-hour closure.

Out of District Learners
At this time, all out of district learners will be asked to participate in the 24-hr pause as well, including BOCES and CTE students, and will not be transported to attend in-person classes on Monday, December 14, 2020.
This is out of an abundance of caution, as we continue to finalize our contact tracing.

Please note that The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and other privacy laws restrict us from disclosing or confirming any personally identifiable information. We cannot identify anyone who has tested positive.

Since the start of the school year, the district has been thoroughly cleaning and disinfecting all buildings on campus, in accordance with guidance from the New York State Department of Health and the CDC.

Please contact the district office if you would like more information about our health and safety procedures.
