📪 Mrs. Wood's class received a letter from a 4th-grade student in South Carolina asking them to join The Great Mail Race! The idea is for students from around the US to write to each other and learn about their school and town.
Our students each chose an elementary school in a different state to write to, asking them to join The Great Mail Race.
This project integrates writing, reading, and social studies map skills. Students will mark on a map when they receive a response from their letter to keep track of all the places they are learning about. They loved writing to students in other states and can’t wait to get mail back! 📨

The first career day of 2024 brought Rob Porter, Wildlife Firefighter Type 2/EMT, and Don Witters, Master Chimney Sweep, to our fourth-grade classrooms. Mr. Porter taught the students how a wildlife firefighter suppresses and controls fires that spread across forests and other wild environments and showed them some of his equipment. Mr. Witters brought a few of the tools he uses to clean and maintain chimneys and explained the importance of keeping chimneys clean. Thank you to Ms. LaVine and Mr. Woodell-Freire for organizing this event! 🤩

Third graders got in the holiday spirit by going to the Charles R. Wood Theater to see a matinee performance of New York Dance Project & RCDT's production of 🍭🍬 "Clara and the Land of the Sweets." It was the first ballet for many and the first time in a theater for some. 🩰
🌬 Mrs. Irish’s third graders explored how blubber helps keep animals warm in cold climates, with Crisco acting as blubber! ❄️🐳
Venison sloppy joe's were a hit with students! The venison was purchased with an award from the Local Food for Schools Cooperative Agreement Program grant.
Thank you, Fort Ann Rotary Club, for delivering dictionaries to our third graders
